The role of the wingman first and foremost is the ability to run forward and back helping mid field players once they have run off to attack or defend. This player can be either tall (picking up a tall ) or small (picking up the creative opponent). The expectations of the wingman are as follows.                                                                                                                                              General

-         must have very good running ability

-         must be extremely fit

-         must have stamina and endurance

-         must keep feet and not go to ground if possible

-         must communicate loudly and confidently with team mates around them

-         must kick the ball well to maintain possession.

-       must work forward and back to set play up

Controlling Wingman
Respected Position
Play on best wingman
Stay at home more often than not
Playing behind ball on most occasions
Assist as outlet kick for defence (transfers)
Run with ball
Marking option
Ability to win ball one on one
Penetrating accurate kick to leading forwards
Need to hold position when in our forward line or our backline
Ability to control wing zone
Most likely the heavier traffic side of ground
Possibility of dual wingman so need to work with teammate in this role
Goal kicking Wingman
Usually playing attacking side
Opportunist with speed and excitement
Quick & confident with penetrating kick
Need to be competent goal kicker on run from 30 to 40
Demanding voice
Accountable but need to take risks
Roving off HF line
Used on transfer of play to run and carry
Offensive receiver on ball ups
Kicking skills important both sides of the body
