A correction by the field umpire smoothed things quickly.
In the opposition goal square where a ball up was taking place our Ruckman jumped high and punched the ball through the goals. The umpire who bounced the ball was about to award the opposition Ruckman a free kick for the ball had not being touched prior to going through the goals. ( which is the correct decision in AFL) His co umpire as well as the goal umpire quickly advised him of his mistake and the point was awarded and the kick out took place.
If the ball had gone directly over the boundary line (without being touched) or skimmed the point post and went out of bounds then a free kick would be awarded to the opposing Ruckman.
We coaches need to keep up with the rules and rule changes as it will save a lot of frustration and anguish.
