John “Swooper” Northey

John “Swooper” Northey is a former Australian rules football player and coach.

He played from 1963 to 1970 with the Richmond Football Club.

A Derrinallum recruit, Northey was a dual premiership player with Richmond, winning flags in 1967 and 1969.

He is better known however as a coach.

John is currently coaching the Learmonth Football Club

Shaun started his coaching career in 2006 as development coach for the Ballarat Football Club where John acted as his mentor.

Since then Shaun has gone on to coach at the North Ballarat Rebels TAC Under 18 and Under 16 Sides. Shaun has also provided coaching and assistance to the Vic Country Girls Teams and currently services as the Youth Girls Victorian Country Team Coach as well.

Shaun currently possess the following accreditation:

  • ​2008 Level 1 AFL Coaching Accreditation
  • 2011 Level 2 AFL Coaching Accreditation
  • 2012 Level 1 AFL Identifying Talent Accreditation
  • 2013 Level 3 Coaching Accreditation
