The Coaches Role Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

If we wish to obtain respect from players, we need to lead by example

We are Role Models

Everyday relationships need consistency

Respecting young people/players

  • Being aware of the effect that our thoughts, words and the way we express ourselves have on young players.
  • Expressing ourselves without attacking or criticising
  • Listening with Interest
  • Seeing the uniqueness in each young person, helping them to express these qualities, themselves
  • Creating their qualities in knowing how to resolve conflicts in a non violent way
  • Again being aware of the enormous influence we have on these young people.

Aggression and Violence

  • Breaking the cycle of violence rather than feeding it
  • Understanding the disciplines required in the cycle of violence
  • Accepting all youngsters while at the same time setting clear understandable boundaries
  • Listen with empathy even when a young person is being aggressive or violent.
  • Being acutely aware of RIGHT from WRONG

If we wish to obtain respect from players, we need to lead by example Part 2

Paying attention to ourselves in order to pay better attention to the young people

  • Being aware of our own state of mind which has a direct effect on the receptiveness of a young person and the quality of your relationship with them
  • Listening to ourselves and our conscience
  • Recharge your batteries regularly as to maintain your energy levels
  • Asking for support, support, who has the same beliefs in developing young people, as yourself.
  • Making an honest appraisal of our performance

Learning how to handle intense, emotional filled competition.

  • Dissociating our personal ambition from our team’s results.
  • it’s all in the teaching, results will look after themselves.
  • Concentrate on the process.
  • Getting caught up in the game can be the team’s downfall, remember no matter what the situation, we need to.

Lead by Example.

Part 2

COMMUNICATION

Generally, the way we begin our message often determines the outcome.

Be careful about the first few words. People often decide to either accept our message (talk) or reject it based on your opening sentences.

Be confident with your Communication, you know better than anyone else what you are saying.

  • Eye contact: This helps to regulate the flow of communication.
  • Facial Expressions: Smiling is a powerful cue that transmits happiness, friendliness, warmth, and liking
  • Gestures: If you fail to gesture while speaking you may be perceived as boring and stiff
  • Posture and body orientation: You communicate numerous messages by the way you talk and move.
  • Vocal: Speaking can signal nonverbal communication when you include such vocal elements as: tone, pitch, rhythm, loudness, and inflection

The real communication is the message received.

The real communication is the message received.

Communicating within your team is often crucial to your success, both on and off the ground, or whatever sport you play. Not only is good communication needed during a game, helping your players play as a team, it’s also important to have good communication off it. Building up team spirit and a solid bond between your teammates can often help you get over the line in tight games!
