Skills for Adults/Coaches to Develop

Being a role model in everyday relationships, because young people need consistency.

  • Resoecting young people in our thoughts, words and actions so not to contribute to feelings of hurt and possibly provoke anger and violence.
  • Being aware of the effect that our thoughts, words and expressions can have on our young people
  • To regain our inner calm
  • Listening properly, taking it in
  • Seeing the uniqueness in each young person and help them recognise to express these qualities themselves
  • Knowing how to resolve our own conflicts in a non-violent way
  • —— with other adults / teachers / your boss
  • —— with other young people school mates / friends/ team mates / opposition
  • Recognise when you did or said something that was not consistent with your intensions of respect and consideration, and take back those words or behavior

Paying attention to ourselves in order to pay better attention to the young people.

  • Being aware that our own state of mind has a direct affect on the receptiveness of a young person and the quality of our relationship with them
  • Listen to ourselves and our conscience
  • Recharging our batteries regularly so as to maintain our energy levels
  • Re-centering ourselves in difficult situations
  • Asking for support and respect

Dealing with aggression or violence

  • Breaking the cycle of violence rather than feeding it
  • Understanding the source of the violence
  • Accepting youngsters unconditionally, while at the same time setting clear boundaries
  • Continue to listen even when a young person is being aggressive, being calm in our own mind set

Learning how to handle intense, competition related emotions

  • Dissociating our personal worth from our teams result
  • Detaching ourselves emotionally from the result and focusing on watching the game from a performance perspective.

We are all educators of life.

Respect on the ground

Football is one of the most emotionally charged of all sports

It is a fantastic training ground for the emotional and personal development for young people

On the training track

  • Helping everyone to get more enjoyment out of training and games
  • Improving players individual and team performance
  • Preventing and defusing violence on the ground a
  • Encouraging respect on the training track and in the game

This allows the Coach to get the most from his role, supported by the Parents

Giving young people the opportunity to

  • Understand themselves better,
  • Feel better about themselves
  • Enjoy easier and happier relationships,
  • Perform better and to be more successful in everything they do
  • Preventing violence and creating a respectful society.
